Share Your Umbrella Mentoring Initiative
In an effort to increase the numbers of underrepresented minorities entering the field of Orthopaedic Surgery, the JRGOS Mentoring Committee is proud to introduce its mentoring initiative, "Share Your Umbrella." This initiative invites practicing Orthopaedic Surgeons to allow interested medical students, residents or fellows to shadow the surgeon for one day during the next year.
The initiative hopes to identify practicing physicians who are willing to share the benefits of their knowledge, wisdom, and experience to encourage the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons as well as students, residents and fellows with whom to match them.
The short term goal of this initiative is to expose under-represented minority students to physicians currently practicing Orthopaedic Surgery. The long-term goal is to foster mentoring relationships, which will support students, residents and fellows through their matriculation through an orthopaedic surgery residency program and the successful passing of Parts I & II of the ABOS examination.
