Nadia Hackett, MS: I am incredibly grateful for my experience at Walter Reed this past summer as a SOMOS 2024 E. Anthony Rankin Scholar. I was given the opportunity to fully immerse myself in military orthopedics and learn more about the different subspecialties. Throughout the program, I was able to hear from program directors in the area and learn more about applying for residency in orthopedics. The mentorship and guidance that was given throughout my time at Walter Reed, I believe, will last a lifetime and help tremendously with my future in orthopedics.

Emilia Ferreira, MS: As a Rankin scholar, I had the privilege of shadowing and collaborating with incredible physicians at Walter Reed. The mentorship I received deepened my understanding of orthopedic surgery and inspired me to appreciate the challenges and rewards of military service. I gained invaluable hands-on experience in the OR, listened to unique cases during morning conferences, honed my suturing skills, and learned how to cast. I will always cherish the relationships I built and the experiences I had during this journey!
