Laurencin Institute for Regenerative Engineering, a cross-disciplinary center at the University of Connecticut named in his honor. At UConn, he holds several distinguished roles, including University Professor and the Albert and Wilda Van Dusen Distinguished Endowed Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at the School of Medicine. Dr. Laurencin is also a professor in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering.

Internationally acknowledged for his pioneering role in founding regenerative engineering, Dr. Laurencin has also made major innovations in orthopaedic surgery, polymer science, and musculoskeletal tissue repair. Dr. Laurencin holds the unique distinction of being the only surgeon elected to all four major U.S. National Academies: Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, and Inventors. His academic background includes a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University, an M.D. from Harvard Medical School (Magna Cum Laude), and a Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology from MIT. In 2023, Dr. Laurencin was named Inventor of the Year by the Intellectual Property Owners Education Foundation.
